    Dual shots detection

    The identification of a special kind of acoustic events such as dual gunshots and single gunshots in the traffic background is described in this work. The recognition of dangerous sounds may help to prevent the abnormal or criminal activities that happened near to the public transport stations. Therefore in this paper the methodology of dual shots detection in a noisy background was developed and evaluated. For this purpose, we investigated various feature extraction methods and combinations of different feature sets. These approaches were evaluated by the widely used classification technique based on the Hidden Markov Models

    Classification of Broadcast News Audio Data Employing Binary Decision Architecture

    A novel binary decision architecture (BDA) for broadcast news audio classification task is presented in this paper. The idea of developing such architecture came from the fact that the appropriate combination of multiple binary classifiers for two-class discrimination problem can reduce a miss-classification error without rapid increase in computational complexity. The core element of classification architecture is represented by a binary decision (BD) algorithm that performs discrimination between each pair of acoustic classes, utilizing two types of decision functions. The first one is represented by a simple rule-based approach in which the final decision is made according to the value of selected discrimination parameter. The main advantage of this solution is relatively low processing time needed for classification of all acoustic classes. The cost for that is low classification accuracy. The second one employs support vector machine (SVM) classifier. In this case, the overall classification accuracy is conditioned by finding the optimal parameters for decision function resulting in higher computational complexity and better classification performance. The final form of proposed BDA is created by combining four BD discriminators supplemented by decision table. The effectiveness of proposed BDA, utilizing rule-based approach and the SVM classifier, is compared with two most popular strategies for multiclass classification, namely the binary decision trees (BDT) and the One-Against-One SVM (OAOSVM). Experimental results show that the proposed classification architecture can decrease the overall classification error in comparison with the BDT architecture. On the contrary, an optimization technique for selecting the optimal set of training data is needed in order to overcome the OAOSVM

    Speech communication interfaces (SCI) are nowadays widely used in several domains. Automated spoken language human-computer interaction can replace human-human interaction if needed. Automatic speech recognition (ASR), a key technology of SCI, has been extensively studied during the past few decades. Most of present systems are based on statistical modeling, both at the acoustic and linguistic levels. Increased attention has been paid to speech recognition in adverse conditions recently, since noise-resistance has become one of the major bottlenecks for practical use of speech recognizers. Although many techniques have been developed, many challenges still have to be overcome before the ultimate goal -- creating machines capable of communicating with humans naturally -- can be achieved. In this paper we describe the research and development of the first Slovak spoken language dialogue system. The dialogue system is based on the DARPA Communicator architecture. The proposed system consists of the Galaxy hub and telephony, automatic speech recognition, text-to-speech, backend, transport and VoiceXML dialogue management modules. The SCI enables multi-user interaction in the Slovak language. Functionality of the SLDS is demonstrated and tested via two pilot applications, ``Weather forecast for Slovakia'' and ``Timetable of Slovak Railways''. The required information is retrieved from Internet resources in multi-user mode through PSTN, ISDN, GSM and/or VoIP network

    OPNET modeler simulation testing of the new model used to cooperation between QoS and security mechanisms

    In this article the performance analysis of the new model, used to integration between QoS and Security, is introduced. OPNET modeler simulation testing of the new model with comparation with the standard model is presented. This new model enables the process of cooperation between QoS and Security in MANET. The introduction how the model is implemented to the simulation OPNET modeler is also showed. Model provides possibilities to integration and cooperation of QoS and security by the cross layer design (CLD) with modified security service vector (SSV). An overview of the simulation tested of the new model, comparative study in mobile ad-hoc networks, describe requirements and directions for adapted solutions are presented. Main idea of the testing is to show how QoS and Security related services could be provided simultaneously with using minimal interfering with each service

The MobilTel projectprovides research and development activities inmultimodal interfaces area. The result is a functionalarchitecture for mobile multimodal telecommunicationsystem running on handheld device. The MobilTelcommunicator is a multimodal Slovak speech andgraphical interface with integrated VoIP client. Theother possible modalities are pen – touch screeninteraction, keyboard, and display on which theinformation is more user friendly presented (icons,emoticons, etc.), and provides hyperlink and scrollingmenu availability.We describe the method of interaction between mobileterminal (PDA) and MobilTel multimodal PCcommunicator over a VoIP WLAN connection basedon SIP protocol.
